Die ehemalige Kirche Saint Martin

Das Glockenspiel des Turmes Saint-Martin schlägt Stunde um Stunde im Herzen von Vendôme.

Der Turm Saint-Martin ist der ehemalige Glockenturm der gleichnamigen Kirche, die früher fast die gesamte Fläche des heutigen Platzes einnahm. Zahlreiche Umbauten werden nach der Revolution vorgenommen und verursachen eine große Schwächung der Gebäudestruktur, so dass 1854 das Gewölbe einstürzt. Die Kirche wird danach völlig abgerissen und ihr Kirchturm (Ende 15., Anfang 16. Jahrhundert) wird zum Uhr- und Glockenturm. Aus dem Turm Saint-Martin ertönt zu jeder vollen Stunde ein Glockenspiel, das an die wenigen Städte erinnert, die Kronprinz Charles VII im 15. Jahrhundert noch besaß : “Orléans, Beaugency, Notre-Dame-de-Cléry, Vendôme…”

Former St. Martin’s Church

St. Martin’s Tower is the old bell tower of a church which once occupied almost the entire area of the square you see today. After the French Revolution, the many alterations weakened its structure and the vaulted roof collapsed in 1854. The church was finally demolished and its tower (late 15th/early 16th centuries) was turned into a belfry.
The carillion in St. Martin’s Tower serves as a reminder of the only towns held by the heir to the throne, Charles VII, in the 15th century: “Orléans, Beaugency, Notre-Dame-de-Cléry and Vendôme”.

L’ancienne église Saint-Martin

La tour Saint-Martin est l’ancien clocher d’une église qui occupait presque tout l’espace de la place actuelle. Après la Révolution, de nombreuses transformations ont affaibli la structure de l’édifice et la voûte s’effondre en 1854. L’église est finalement démolie et son clocher (fin XVe, début XVIe siècles) est converti en beffroi. Le carillon de la tour Saint-Martin évoque les seules villes détenues au XVe siècle par le dauphin Charles VII : “Orléans, Beaugency, Notre-Dame-de-Cléry et Vendôme…”
